"100 Years of Girl Scouting" Poster Contest

WHO - Any registered Girl Scout member


WHAT - Design a poster representing the theme "100 years of Girl Scouting"
"GREEN" is an ongoing theme to Girl Scouts, the use of recycled materials is encouraged


DIMENSIONS - 28x22 poster board is the maximum size


DEADLINE - Jan 10, 2012 at Diablo Shadows Volunteer Meeting.  Meeting starts at 7 pm (Posters due by 6:45 pm)

PRIZES - Girls can win admission tickets (One Scout and One Adult tickets) for the GSNorCAlOneHundred Fun HUndred Event! May 5th, 2012 at Pleasanton Fairgrounds.  
One prize will be given to each GS Level - Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador.

November Events

November 11th - Meet at the Clayton Library at 10 am for a nature walk/trash pickup adventure! We will be supplying the girls with gloves.  Bring a snack and we can stop for a picnic break.  Weather does say it might be raining.  Unless its a downpour we will go anyway, dress appropriately!


November 22nd - Field Trip to ARF from 1-2:30.  Meet in Arf's parking lot at 12:45.  2890 Mitchell Drive, At the corner of Oak Grove Road and Mitchell Drive, Walnut Creek. Siblings welcome.  They will cost $10 ea.

WE'RE BACK!

Welcome back to the 2011-2012 Daisy Girl Scout Year! We are so happy that all of our girls returned and that we could add two more to the troop. Please make sure that you have registered online or that you have mailed in your check otherwise you will not be recognized by the Girl Scouts and unable to sell cookies or attend GS functions.

If you have yet to sign up for the movie event for November 5th, do it soon, they sell out quick! This year's movie is Puss N Boots. Its a fun time and easy way to get a patch!

Our first two meeting went fabulously. Working in a classroom after school hours seems to be fun for the girls. Hopefully it stays that way! We are working on earning our yellow petal, the friendly and helpful petal. You just might see random daisy notes around your house as our girls learn how to be more friendly and helpful.

Our next meeting (October 29th) will be cancelled due to our sister Daisy scout troop hosting a Halloween party. This is a great socializing event for the girls and parents who chose to stay. The girls will do 4-5 stations of fun. If you choose to bring a snack to share, out sister troop request that it is healthy as there will be treats given out at the stations. The party time is from 5 - 7. The address is 5806 Del Trigo Lane. Costumes are optional.  I will say that I think everyone came in costume last year.  

We will have a field trip during the month of November. Details to come...

Lotsa Recaps!

Valentine Party was a huge success! Parents and kids were happy with all of our stations and hard work. Thank you Heidi Brown for organizing the day for us. A bigger thank you for leaving your sick baby to help end the meeting. The girls were so happy to see you!

Feb 18th Meeting - During our last meeting we introduced the Orange Petal, Being Responsible For What I Say and Do. Heidi and I explained what this meant, performed a skit to show what it means and then went around the circle with each girl sharing an idea of what the petal means to them. Over the next couple meetings, we will be doing various things on how to be responsible. One station that night was to make our Responsible Hands Chart. Please being this back to us at the March 4th meeting! Hopefully you all had some Responsible Hands helping you around the house over the last 2 weeks. Our other station was fun and simple bracelet making. To reinforce being Responsible For What I Say and Do, we stressed to the girls to not reach around others to grab a bead that you want. We asked them to use their words and manners if something was out of their reach, and for their friend to politely hand them what they want. It's so rewarding to see our girls listening, learning and being polite to one another! We ended the meeting with a couple of games. Heidi and I are learning that by Friday night, all of our girls are a wee bit tired and not that focused when we do more than one station. We have found over the last couple of meetings that they really enjoy starting or ending the meeting with fun old-fashioned games.

Thinking Day - Thinking Day was a blast! Our girls loved trading their pins and receiving other Troop's SWAPPS. It was a ton of fun traveling to different countries, sampling different foods and learning about other cultures.

Cookie Sale at Safeway - While I missed the sale due to sick child, Heidi called and informed me that everyone had a good time and that we sold A LOT of cookies! Way to go Daisies and Daisy Mommies!! Thank you all for giving up a part of your Sunday and a BIG THANK YOU to Sandy for taking care of the nut/cookie sales! This is a huge job that we so appreciate you doing.

FYI - Our meeting on March 18th is cancelled. We have a field trip to the Clayton Library schedule for March 16th at 3:30. Let's meet in front of the library at 3:15.

World Thinking Day

Thinking Day was first created in 1926 at the fourth Girl Guide/Girl Scout International Conference held at Girl Scouts of the USA's Camp Edith Macy (now called Edith Macy Conference Center). Conference attendees decided that there should be a special day for Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from around the world to "think" of each other and give thanks and appreciation to their "sister" Girl Scouts. The delegates chose February 22 as the date for Thinking Day because it was the mutual birthday of Lord Baden-Powell, founder of the Boy Scout movement, and his wife, Olave, who served as World Chief Guide. To emphasize the global aspect of Thinking Day, members at the 30th World Conference, held in Ireland in 1999, changed the name from Thinking Day to World Thinking Day.

World Thinking Day will be held on February 26th at Concord High School, 4200 Concord Blvd., Concord 94521 in the Multi-Use Room.

We should all try to be there by 9:10/9:15 so that we can walk in as a troop. Please wear you Daisy Smock!

The schedule of the day is as follows...
9:30 to 10:00: Welcome Flag Ceremony and Announcements
10:00 to 12:00: Visit Booths (booths will be set up as countries. Our girls will be receiving passports that will be stamped as they travel from place to place). We will announce at the halfway point, so the groups can switch places.
12:00 to 12:30: Closing Friendship Circle and make new friends.
